Following the thread

In January 2016 I will begin facilitating a spiritual exploration group for families who have experienced emotional traumas and severe mental health challenges. In putting together the materials for it, I am struck by the fact that when one person in a family begins to have significant problems, its the beginning of an initiation experience. They are thrust into a journey of healing that hopefully will lead them to learn who they are now with this new experience. However, its not just an initiation for the person who is healing, but for the entire family. The change in one person can cause a significant shift in the entire family. 

Part of the healing that is often overlooked is the spiritual. This group will be a way to explore the territory of spirituality. To look at the stories we carry about ourselves and about what happens to us. To look at how we take care of ourselves and connect to the deep support around us. To see the world in a different, more supportive way. Since the focus is on the spiritual, I have been looking at that thread that every religious and spiritual path follows. The thread of awe. The mystery of those things we don't know and can't comprehend. The essential beauty and mystery of life. The beauty of Nature in all its forms. The beautiful strength in vulnerability and brokenness. It's a powerful journey.

My intention is that when topics come up in the journey, I will write about them here. Let's see where this takes us!
